Tailgating Ideas

I’m not sure where the tradition of the tailgate party started in relation to football, but I think it’s a great idea, and I either attend them or throw several every year during football season. Often times I get together with friends that like the same teams I do, or live in the same area, and we all get tickets to the game and parking passes, and go crazy with the tailgating.
I like to do a little research before I start my planning. Read up on the teams, the stadium, etc. and plan accordingly. I read a lot of blogs, like Sports and Stuff and others, where I find I can get ideas from.
There is a bit of an art to a good tailgate party. Not only do you need to know how to grill awesome food, you need to make sure you have plenty of other foods. Picnic style foods work best: potato or pasta salads, fruit, cakes or other sweet stuff for desert, and plenty of beverages.
Beer is a very popular beverage at tailgate parties, but there is something to consider when alcohol is included: the stadium won’t admit someone who is drunk. Now, some people will get parking passes only, drive to the stadium and throw the party while watching the game on portable televisions or radios. People that do that don’t need to worry about the alcohol restrictions, but why go if you don’t see the game in the end?

Boys in The Mud

I'm a big fan of what I call Celtic Punk. Bands like Flogging Molly, the Pogues and whatnot. There's a song that was recently used in a Toyota commercial with a soccer mom and her boys being picked up from football practice. They use the song "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" and it's quite appropriate for rowdy boys playing football.
The reading I've been doing lately has a lot to do with football. Blogs like Sports And Crap and Throw Me The Ball have kept me entertained. They pointed me to Internet Ticket Outlet too, which turned out to be a gold mine for getting game tickets. They're nice folks.

The Murderer's Hand.

"Of Ibycus! Him whom we all lament, with some murderer's hand laid low! What have the cranes to do with him?"

Ibycus was a greatly loved poet of Greek myth that was murdered by highwaymen on the road to Corinth.

Wikipedia says this of Ibycus:
"Ibycus was an Ancient Greek lyric poet, a citizen of Rhegium in Magna Graecia, probably active at Samos during the reign of the tyrant Polycrates and numbered by the scholars of Hellenistic Alexandria in the canonical list of nine lyric poets. He was mainly remembered in antiquity for pederastic verses but he also composed lyrical narratives on mythological themes in the manner of Stesichorus. His work survives today only as quotations by ancient scholars or recorded on fragments of papyrus recovered from archaeological sites in Egypt, yet his extant verses include some of the finest examples of Greek poetry."

Here we go!

This is what I'll be seeing in a few weeks. I've gotten some Outback Bowl tickets, airline tickets and hotel reservations. I am looking forward to this!
I got some VT football tickets for this season, and it's been a lot of fun. I'm considering some WV tickets for next season.
